Superstar Mariah Carey is the first judge to be announced for American Idol Season 12
It was only recently that judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler decided to leave the hit reality show which has suffered from falling ratings over the last few seasons. So it is no wonder that producers have pursued big names to fill the Idol judging panel for season 12!
Fox president Kevin Reilly has broke the big news that we had suspected...Mariah Carey will be the new judge after finalising a $18 million deal, $6 million more than former judge, Jennifer Lopez. Thus making her the highest paid judge on reality TV!
However he was quick to emphasis that Mariah will not be replacing J.Lo but she will be a judge in her own right. Mariah told reporters over speakerphone, saying: "I am so excited to be joining Idol. I wish I could have been there myself to tell you. It all kind of just happened real quickly. I can't wait to get started in a couple months…I will see you in January!"

This is not the first time Carey has appeared on the hit show. She served as guest mentor in season 7 for the contestants who were belting out some of her hits for the top 7 week. This superstardom had attracted Simon Cowell who looked at Carey to play a crucial role in his own music competition, X Factor. Although now ironic, it must be gutting to hear that she will be joining his rival competition.
With Steven Tyler and J.Lo out, we are still yet to know whether Randy Jackson, who manages Carey, will be part of season 12. Funnily, Kevin Reilly refused to comment on this issue. But we can't wait to see the diva take on the infamous role which has brought stars back into the limelight such as J.Lo. Now the question is who will be the remaining two stars and will Randy return?
