2012 is looking great for the Take That lead singer Gary Barlow. First his amazing contribution to the Jubilee with the song "Sing", a collab with the military wives and singers across the commonwealth. Secondly, rumours are rife that he will therefore be awarded an OBE for his efforts in music. Thirdly, this week the British public has awarded him with a Number 1 album and single in the charts, his first solo number 1 in 15 years. Well done Gary!
And we're looking forward to seeing the smooth crooner later this year as head judge on the X factor alongside Louis Walsh, Tulisa and wait? Will they ever find a female singer hasbeen to replace the gorgeous Kelly Rowland.
In the rest of the charts:
Just trailing behind "Sing" was Flo Rida's new single "Whistle". Now when I first heard this mid tempo track (in a club), I initially knew it was going to be a hit following the success of Flo's other club hits such as "Good Feeling" and "Wild Ones". On first hearing, you are attracted to the specific "interesting" lyrics. How would have thought that "blow my whistle" was describing the act of... blowing another type of instrument! As a linguist, I am forever fascinated by how innocent little words are given multiple connotations and eventual innuendos. From the verb 'come' meaning to arrive in a particular destination to adjectives like "hard", "big", "bang". No matter what, Flo will still get little kids singing along to this beat. Keep looking out for this one in the charts in the next couple of weeks. If you haven't checked already, here's the UK singles top 10:
