Shows that I will be glued to throughout the season!
There is only one true sign when autumn (or fall, for my american readers) arrives - not when it starts getting colder or the evenings become shorter- But when all my favorite shows return to the small screen! (Cue: Celebration). I am not going to say that it has been a slow summer. I have some discovered some new shows and enjoyed the reruns of some of my faves. However, I must admit that I have missed some of the regulars. So I'm going to give you a quick run through on some of the shows that I have already set on my TV guide. Quite a few left me on a cliff ending on their season finale, so I'm dying to find out what happens next!
For the Girls

| New Girl, New Season! (Check out season 2 on FOX) |
New Girl (Tues, 9pm, FOX)
Ever since this show blew up on our screen with the right amount of "adorkability" and Zoey Deshanel, I have been hooked! Now I am dying to find out the answer to the elephant in the loft: Will Jess and Nick get together? At the end of it's first season, Nick decided not to live with his previous girlfriend and stay in the loft with Jess and co. There may be an undeniable tension between these two but will the creators make us wait like a Ross and Rachel! Let's hope not....
Whitney (Fri, 8pm, NBC)
Now if you like the dark, cynical comedy of Max from 2 Broke Girls, you'll love Whitney. I got into the first season early this year while on a search to find out a new show to keep me occupied. Comedian Whitney Cummings stars as a one half of a modern couple who will prefer to live together than go down the aisle.

| Just another modern family! |
Modern Family (Weds, 9pm, ABC)
I have a confession to make...I only started watching Modern Family this year! Okay that is shameful but I always disregarded the show even though the show has one the Emmy for outstanding comedy three years in a row!
Anyway, I knew the show was special when I literally "laughed out loud" during the pilot. Yes it took LOL to a new level! I must explain why this was such a significant moment. Normally when I watch a new show, I hate the Pilot. Yep, I find the first episode way too awkward and desperate to build good ratings. However when I watch a rerun of such pilot it is a lot funnier as I have become accustomed to all the characters by that point.
So back to modern family. We left off with Gloria discovering that she is expecting, Haley going to college and Cam and Mitchell looking to adopt a second child. There was no massive cliffhanger but I can't wait to be back with the Pritchett family. After heated salary negotiations this summer, hopefully the tensions are put all behind them ahead of another successful season!
How I Met Your Mother (Mon, 8pm, CBS)
Now you will think that after 7 years, we would finally find who the mother is! Yes for over five seasons, I held a candle that Robin would eventually be the mother of Ted's kids. However after the whirlwind of season 7 where you learn that Robin cannot ever have kids and the shock twist that (SPOILER), Robin will eventually marry Barney, all hopes were gone!
I have to be honest, last season was by far my least favourite season of HIMYM. Much of my anticipation for season 8 is to see if the writers can pick up from the humdrum of season 7. With murmurings from the stars including Jason Segel and NPH that this should possibly be their last, let's hope that Ted finally gets a break and meets his future love, The Mother!
The Big Bang Theory (Thurs,8pm, CBS)
I am also looking forward to see what will happen to the gang this season. Will Leonard and Penny stay together? Will Sheldon ever share any human emotions with girlfriend Amy Farrah Fowler? Will Howard return from space? and most importantly will Rajesh ever be able to speak to women without being drunk?
Singing and Dancing
The Voice (Mon, 8-10pm, NBC) X Factor USA (Tues, 8-10pm, FOX)
There hasn't been a rivalry since Britney vs Christina but now weekday nights has become the battle of the singing competitions. Both shows have different and interesting structures. After the not so spectacular ratings of season 1 on X Factor, Simon has employed Britney Spears and Demi Lovato to drum up some ratings. The Voice, now in season 3, has grown from strength to strength since its opening with judges Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Christina Aguliera and Cee Lo Green.
As for me, I will be watching both. X Factor UK, the British counterpart has been a huge success giving forth stars such as Leona Lewis, Cheryl Cole and One Direction. So far ratings seem to favour The Voice, especially after their sly tactic to grab some viewers on X factor season 2 premiere. But only time will tell who will win this battle.
Glee (Weds, 9pm, FOX)
By the end of the third season of Glee, I had pretty much revoked my Gleek membership! Honestly, I was sick of the poor mismatched storylines that has seemed to plague the legacy that Glee had forged in season one. The music, however current, cannot disguise the fact that the show was hanging on a thread.
However, to give it credit, Ryan Murphy has allowed the characters to grow up and let the story develop realistically, thus exploring the life stages from teens to adulthood. This year we see the seniors who have graduated including the stars Rachel (Lea Michelle) , Kurt (Chris Colfer) begin their life in college. I'll would have been more annoyed if Rachel was still singing showtunes at age 30!
The showroom now is so empty that you can see the tumbleweed past by and hear the whistles of the wind - in harmony of course! I'm looking forward to see how Ryan will savage the show as all the main ingredients for its success has sailed across to New York.
Teen Loves
Hart of Dixie (Tues, 8pm, CW)
If I was giving out an award for Unexpected Hit, it would have go to Hart of Dixie! I hadn't taken much interest in any work of Rachel Bilson since The O.C and sure wouldn't have expected her to lead in this country hit. On that note, last season I saw a massive rise in shows celebrating southern life deep in the heart of texas. However, Hart takes the top spot. Many agreed including my close circle of friends who were team Wade while I, myself was team George. If you haven't pick a team yet, tune into season 2 to find out who Dr Zoe Hart will eventually stay with in Bluebell.
Gossip Girl (Mon, 9pm, CW)
In the life of any drama or sitcom, there is an initial phase where the show recieves a surge in popularity and some Emmys, followed by steady, plateau trend where the writers maintain their fanbase with interesting plots and cliffhangers. Then finally, after exhausting all possible avenues, the show begins to decline. The biggest indication will be seen in the ratings. Gossip girl has unfortunately reached the last and final stage. There was a huge sigh of relief that the show has finally given up the ghost after six scandalous seasons. Of course, I will miss the beauty of Chace Crawford glorifying my TV set once a week. However it's time for gossip girl to get a real life and stop snooping into the lives of New York's elite!
